Telemarketing Fact Sheet for Canada residents
Not sure if you are a victim of telemarketing? The telemarketers are so annoying that they call you at home, usually in the evening from 6pm to 9pm. I used to have this lawn care company (Weedman) kept calling us every 2 months, even though I specifically asked them every time not to call us again, but they just call back anyway. (The reason they call me back is because I did not follow the rules of the telemarketing games.)
The number of telemarketing calls to our home used to be at a reasonable level in the past, but it jumped to 4-7 times a week in recent months. It was once that we were so afraid to pick up our incoming calls during our dinner time, that most of the calls are telemarketing calls. We further emailed to our friends to ask them to leave a voice mail for us so that we can call them back.
My battle to this telemarketing war has changed after my colleague tips me this telemarketing rules from Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunication Commission (CRTC). Three months after using this technique, the number of telemarketing calls to my home has now dropped to on average one call every 2 weeks. Here are the tips:

- They will be looking for Mr. X, do not identify yourself, instead ask the callers to identify themselves and the company they works for.
- Do not talk to much, promptly ask them to add this phone number onto their DO NOT CALL list.
- The do not call request must be processed without requiring you to do anything further.
- As of October 1st, 2004, the caller must give a unique registration number to you to be added to the do not call list. Most of them do not have the registration number, but ask for it anyway.
- The whole conversation should take less than a minute.

Movie: Love Comes Softly
This was the movie we watched together in our cell group last Friday. We initially planned to watch the "Amazing Grace", but were unable to rent the movie in the Blockbuster nor the Rogers video store.
It is a story about a young woman (Marty) on her way to a new life in the West, who suddenly finds herself a widow. With no other options, she accepted the marriage proposal of widower (Clark), who offered her a place to stay for the Winter and provided her with the fare for the wagon train heading back East in the Spring. In exchange, he wanted her to provide a maternal influence for his young daughter Missie.
The love story is really touching, but it is Clark's faith that attracts me. A scene that is memorable is when Clark takes Marty to his "church," a bench that faces a beautiful view, and explains his faith to her:

"Missie (his daughter) could fall down and hurt herself, even if I were right there beside her. That doesn't mean I allowed it to happen. But she knows, with her father's unconditional love, I'll pick her up and carry her. I'll try to heal her. I'll cry when she cries. And I'll rejoice when she is well. In all the moments of my life, God has been right there beside me. The truth of God's love is not that he allows bad thing to happen, it's his promise that he'll be there with us when they do."

You Are My Sunshine

You Are My Sunshine
You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are gray
You'll never know dear, how much I miss you
Please don't take my sunshine away.
The other night dear, as I lay sleeping
I dreamed I held you in my arms
When I awoke, dear, I was mistaken
So I hung my head and I cried.
John Doe
dd and I are fans of CSI and Cold Case series. From time to time, we came across this John Doe being a victim, and didn't have a clue why the director kept using the same name again and again. It was dd first to discover John Doe is actually a male party whose true identity is unknown. Being grown up in Chinese culture, we only come to know our 无名氏,某某,张三,李四, I guess it is time now to meet Mr. John Doe. Click here for Wikipedia definition.

"WE SEE WHAT MOST DON'T"
Note: Click image to enlarge.
Came across one Salvation Army ‘Invisible’ poster campaign ad in one of the magazines while waiting in ER lounge. The poster really stirs up my compassion, and reminds me that how little I pay attention to the needy. When got home, little googling found out another 2 posters. Also found the ‘Invisible’ TV ads in YouTube here.

Cobcob in GIF animation
GIF Animations [multiple picture frames in one file] can be used for creating image slideshows, screencasts, text banners. To create an animated GIF online, all you need is a set of images (in any format like jpg, png, etc) and Gickr.com, a free site that will convert them into an animated GIF movie of predefined sizes that post them on blogs.
