One Month Old - Celebration

Note: Click image to enlarge.

Today, we are celebrating Cobcob's 1 month old birthday, of course also celebrating dd's freedom from the Chinese traditional 30-day confinement. We prepared simple lunch (red boiled eggs红鸡蛋, cakes蛋糕, sushi寿司 and fried vermicelli炒米粉) to share with our brothers and sisters after the church service.

One Month Old - Portrait

We were so happy that Cobcob was awake just 10 minutes before the studio appointment. Well, he fell asleep during our 5 minute ride to the studio, and he was just too sleepy to post for us. Ok, we finally got this unwillingness look.
Just a thought: The camera and len used in studio are no better then mine. I should be able to take better photo given that I have better background and light system...

Farewell Cognos Customer Support

Today is my last day at Cognos Support. I would like to thank so many people for being such good colleagues. During my time there, I have had the pleasure making many great friends and working with so many wonderful and talented people.

I am looking forward to starting a new role in Cognos QC next Monday, but I am sure that I will miss my friends there in the Support.

Definition of a baby

Definition of a baby:
That which makes the home happier, love stronger,
patience greater, hands busier,
nights longer, days shorter,
purses lighter, clothes shabbier,
the past forgotten, the future brighter.

出门啰

Cobcob 已经三周大了,昨天第一次带他出门shopping去了,表现非常不错。以后可以多带他出门。

Family Portrait

I never got a chance to know which doctor delivered me when I was born. I hope that Cobcob will treasure this photo when he grows up.

Daddy thinks Cobcob is a good boy

2 weeks has passed, Cobcob is by far a good boy to us. He spends most of his time sleeping. Usually, the only time he is crying is when he gets hungry. He has a good temper, I guess this part is gotten from Doreen as well.

Daddy has gone back to work last Thursday, after taking a 9 day vacation. Nobody would believe that daddy would transform into a Super Daddy in 9 days. Now, daddy has mastered the following skills:
- to bathe baby
- to cut baby's finger nails
- to change diaper under 60 amazing seconds. (Of course with my secret weapon... ha ha. I will reveal my secret weapon later.)

住院心得 - Our stay at Queensway Carleton Hospital

We fully followed "What to bring to hospital" list, we ended up brought with us a big travel bag for mum, a smaller bag for baby and a camera bag & lunch box for dad. We later found out we only need 25% of the items we brought with us. Below are our experience and thoughts to share with other expecting mums and dads in Ottawa.

1. Leave your bag(s) in your car. You will not need them until the baby is born. Only bring your camera with you. Our story was that dad had to carry those bags plus winter coats from Triage Room to Delivery Room, from Delivery Room to Recovery Room (after C-section), then from Recovery Room to Patient Room.

2. For mum, QCH will provide patient gown, towel, special sanitary napkin, food, drinks, etc. When dd was discharged from hospital, she was wearing the same shirt and jeans she worn to check in. She only used the socks, slippers and tooth brush from her travel bag.

3. For baby, QCH will provide baby gown, receiving blanket, towel, vaseline, baby formula and first batch of diapers. (About half a dozen) You will need your own diapers after that. They do not provide wiper, so you need to bring your own. Although you can use their receiving blanket there, you will need to bring 2 receiving blankets so that you can wrap your baby home upon discharged.

4. For dad, QCH will provide NOTHING for you. If possible, bring yourself a lunch box as you will not have time to go out and eat. There is microwave there for you to heat your food. Put a sleeping bag in your car in case you need it. Although they treated mum and baby well, they were too cruel to dad. In our case, after an exhausting 18 long hour fight in the hospital, we finally got settled down to our patient room around 2am. Dad was refused to be given a blanket, that he had to sleep on the icy floor through the night. Well, dad brought his camping gear to the hospital the following night...

5. For visitor, you can park your car in Valley Stream Drive. It is free to park on the street and it is only 5 minutes walking distance away from the hospital.

Tip 1: Apply for a phone in your patient room. It is only $3 per day.
Tip 2: Parking overnight will have the discount. If you park your car on Day 1, and check out your car on Day 2, you only need to pay One-Day-Pass for Day 2. Day 1 will be free of charge.

Cobcob

20 minute old

12 hour old

It was a long and exhausted day yesterday, then our tiny miracle finally arrived 25 minutes into the next day. Our prayers have been answered. God has blessed us with His precious gift.

Please join us in welcoming Jacob Goh (吳禛毅), born at 12:25 am on Mar 31, weighing 8 lbs. 15 oz. at Queensway Hospital, Ottawa. Both mum and baby are doing great.

Note 1: Click above photos to see larger image.
Note 2: We need assistance to write "禛" in Simplified Chinese character. Please kindly let us know the answer.

D-Day and H-Hour

"The terms D-Day and H-Hour are used for the day and hour on which a combat attack or operation is to be initiated. They designate the day and hour of the operation when the day and hour have not yet been determined...."

I guess I just have to borrow the military term "D-Day" for our Delivery Day. Our "operation" will be initiated tomorrow at 8am. Hopefully it won't take long to induce the labour, but the timing is in our God's hand.

Once again I pray that we will enjoy our sweet dream tonight, and we will wake up tomorrow with a recharged energy and refreshed spirit to face our big day.

Due Date

"Despite medical advances, there's still no way to know for sure when a woman will go into labor ... even with reliable dating, some women still have prolonged pregnancies, and experts don't really understand why."

Yeah... Today is the due date. Our baby still enjoys his little room in mummy's tummy. Everyday, dd leans her belly on the baby crib, and tells him how big his crib is going to be, and assures him that he is going to love it.

We went to see our obstretecian this morning, Dr Anderson said dd's blood pressure was high and if our boy doesn't come out by Friday, then we will induce the labor on Friday morning. We pray that both mum and baby will have safe delivery.

The Marks of Disciple

Things are sliding down on my side. Stresses, worries and changes mix altogether in such a short time frame, creating an uneasy atmosphere at times. The coming of mother-in-law, the job changing at work, the excitement but yet anxiety one on the coming of baby. I guess those pieces just have to blend into our life to make this moment even a beautiful and unforgettable one.

It was a great sermon on 2 Timothy 2:2-7 today. It reminds me to be a good disciple no matter what and how things are changing around me. It encourages me to live like a soldier to endure hardship, to act like an athlete to discipline, and to live like a farmer to do the hardwork and to wait in patience for growth and harvest.
As Soldier
  • Endure hardship
  • Submission to please commander
As Athlete
  • Discipline life & training
  • Compete according to the rules
As Farmer
  • Hardworking
  • Dependence or God for provision
  • Patience in waiting for growth and harvest

Disney On Ice

Six more days to go. Mum, dd and I went to watch the Disney On Ice at Scotiabank Place this evening. It was a good show to them, and only an "OK" show to me.

Next Stage Of Life

Last night, dd and I spent our time together (just 2 of us) for the last time. We bought a live Tilapia fish from Superstore, and cooked our dinner together. We just enjoyed our night.

Today, dd will work at church for the last time. It was God's mercy that dd had this job when we were struggling with our financial, and it is also God's grace that dd has the opportunity to serve Him the way He wanted us to be.

Tonight, dd's mum will be arriving at Toronto airport. Our best friend Ben will help to fetch mum from Toronto to Ottawa. We are just too lucky to have Ben to help out, that dd wants me to be around as baby will come out anytime after week 37. At first, we thought we can drive to Toronto together to fetch mum, but our obstetrician Dr. Anderson thinks that is a bad idea. Therefore here comes our Superman. :)

Tomorrow early morning, mum will arrive at our home in Ottawa. Mum will be here in the next 3 months to help out. Thanks mum, thanks for coming!

For now on, we are moving into the next stage of our life. As our lives go on and as we are growing older, we are praying that we will all keep our faith in Him no matter what stages of life we are on. David reminds us in Psalm 37: "I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken" (Psalm 37:25).

Memories at Camp Fortune

Very good experience with Camp Fortune's ski class. Time pass, and now I am done with the total of 9 ski lessons. We had 7 students in our class, led by our instructor Heather. Heather is a good instructor, and she demonstrated to us that skiing is fun. Not to mention the parallel skiing we learned in her class, she also taught us 360 degree turn, etc. In our last class, she also led us to go down the double black diamond trail. Bravo!

Our Valentine's Day

Yesterday was one of our most memorable days. We really treasured this opportunity. It could be hard for us to find this kind of opportunity again in years to come after our CobCob joins us in March.

kk took a day off and enjoyed our time together. We had our lunch at Sushi Kanata, then went shopping. Originally, we planned to watch movie, but decided to go home as dd felt tired already. For the evening, we wrapped the won-ton (包云吞) together and ate our deluxe won-ton mee for our dinner. Very nice.

Happy Valentine's Day

Wishing you all a Happy Valentine Day. May we remember the Greatest Lover of all times, for Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13). The Greatest Lover showed us with His very own life.

My Cognos 8 Go! Mobile Training Day

I've been working in Cognos Inc since September 2005. Cognos 8 is our company's Business Intelligence software. It is the product that I support everyday in Customer Support. Cognos 8 is a Web product with integrated reporting, analysis, scorecarding, and event management features.

The above World Map report was one of the reports I created on BlackBerry today during our training session. Cognos 8 Go! Mobile extends the functionality of our existing Cognos 8 installation so that users of mobile devices can view and interact with Cognos 8 reports on devices such as the BlackBerry.

Finally, I've got my prime lens. Hopefully this fast lens will bring us more sharper photo quality in low light condition. Love it so far, but didn't have chance to take a lot of portrait photos yet.
